About the Rubinstein Variation

The Rubinstein Variation is Black's 11...Bf8 in the main line of the Max Lange Attack. Instead of castling queenside with 11...O-O-O, Black retreats the c5-bishop, which the knight on e4 attacks. Black stays a pawn ahead with advanced pawns on c4 and d4, though the c-pawns are doubled. White has doubled f-pawns, but the f6-pawn and the open e-file give pressure against Black's uncastled king.
