Steinbok Gambit

The Steinbok Gambit, 1. h4 f5 2. e4 fxe4 3. d3, is White's gambit response to the Dutch-style reply to the Kádas Opening. After 2...fxe4 Black is a pawn up. White then plays 3. d3 instead of regaining the pawn at once, striking at e4 to open the center and the half-open e- and f-files. The goal is quick development and pressure on Black's kingside, which 1...f5 has loosened. The line is a rare surprise weapon.
