Train it in TheoriaAbout the McDonnell Attack
The McDonnell Attack arises in the Bishop's Gambit when, after 3...Qh4+ 4. Kf1 g5 5. Nc3 Bg7, White postpones Nf3 and hits the f4 pawn with 6. g3. The usual follow-up is Kg2 and hxg3, using the h1 rook against the queen on h4 and Black's advanced kingside pawns. Qf3 against f7 remains an alternative. Black stays a pawn up in a sharp position, and Simon Williams is among the players who have advocated the g3 plan.
