An offbeat line of the King's Gambit Accepted in which 3. g3 stops ...Qh4+ and hits f4, but leaves White with a weak structure and poor results.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Gaga Gambit
The Gaga Gambit, 3. g3, answers the threat of ...Qh4+ with a pawn move rather than a developing move, and at the same time challenges the f4-pawn. The drawback is structural. After the usual reply 3...fxg3 4. hxg3, White is left with an isolated g-pawn. Engines give Black a large advantage, and Black scores heavily in practice. The line is rarely played.
