About the Paulsen Defense Deferred

This branch of the Berlin Defense to the Kieseritzky Gambit replaces the Anderssen Defense, 7...Bd6, with 7...Bg7. The bishop goes to the long diagonal, where it bears on the e5-knight and the queenside. Black leaves the d5-pawn alone for the moment, so material is level, with White's doubled d-pawns set against Black's doubled f-pawns. The e-file is already open while both kings are still uncastled.
