A rare Bishop's Gambit sideline in which Black, two pawns up after 3...f5 and an early queen check, steps the king to d8 to leave the e-file.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Hein Variation
This line arises from the Bishop's Gambit when Black counters with 3...f5, the Lopez-Gianutio Countergambit. After 4. Qe2 Qh4+ 5. Kd1 fxe4 6. Nc3, Black plays 6...Kd8, moving the king off the e-file where White's queen stands. Black is two pawns ahead, but both kings have already moved and neither side can castle. The game is irregular and tactical, and the line is an obscure sideline.
