Salvio Gambit, Cochrane Gambit

The Cochrane Gambit, 6...f3, is Black's counter-sacrifice in the Salvio Gambit. Instead of holding on to the extra f-pawn, Black pushes it to threaten fxg2+ and to open lines toward the king on f1. White usually answers with 7. Bxf7+ or 7. gxf3, which engines rank among the best replies along with 7. d4. The less common 7. g3 has scored best for White in practice. Engines still give Black a clear advantage, and Black wins most games.
