A dubious King's Gambit Accepted sideline in which White plays 3. Bd3, clearing f1 for the king against ...Qh4+ at the cost of a misplaced bishop.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the with Bd3
The Schurig Gambit with Bd3 meets the threat of 3...Qh4+ by vacating f1, so that the check can be answered with Kf1 rather than Ke2. The cost is a poorly placed bishop. On d3 it obstructs the d-pawn, hampering both the d4 advance and the development of the c1-bishop, which White's play in the gambit normally depends on. The same name also covers 3. Bb5, which rests on the identical idea. Opening references regard both bishop moves as inferior.
