The Stamma Gambit, also called the Stamma variation, answers the threat of ...Qh4+ with 3. h4, so the h1-rook covers h4 along the file. The cost is another pawn move instead of a developing one. Black can mobilize quickly and may stop White from ever achieving d4. One line runs 3...Nf6 4. Nc3 Nc6 5. Nf3 Bb4, favoring Black. Engines rate Black clearly better, though online results are close to even. 3...Be7 is the most frequent reply.
