A sharp reply to 4. c3 in the Classical King's Gambit Declined, in which Black answers White's plan of d4 by striking at e4 with 4...f5.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Rubinstein Countergambit
Against 4. c3, which prepares d4 to build a broad center, Black answers in kind with 4...f5 and challenges e4 directly instead of pinning with 4...Bg4. Both sides now have their f-pawns advanced and their kings' diagonals loosened. The bishop on c5 still covers g1, which leaves White unable to castle short. White must decide whether to take on f5 or e5, or to maintain the central tension.
