A rare queen sortie against the Classical King's Gambit Declined, in which White's 3. Qh5 attacks the e5-pawn instead of developing a knight.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Walthoffen Attack
The Walthoffen Attack replaces the usual 3. Nf3 with 3. Qh5, an early queen move that adds pressure to the e5-pawn, already attacked by the f4-pawn and not defended by the c5-bishop. Black must deal with the threat to e5. The price is development, because a queen on h5 can be harassed by Black's minor pieces with tempo. It is a rare deviation from the main lines.
