A King's Indian line in which Black meets the Averbakh Bg5 pin with 6...Nbd7, developing quietly rather than questioning the bishop at once.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Geller Defense
The Geller Defense answers the Averbakh pin with 6...Nbd7, a modest developing move that brings the queen's knight toward the center and prepares a later ...e5 or ...c5 instead of challenging the g5-bishop immediately with ...h6. White most often replies 7. Qd2, while 7. Nf3 and the more aggressive 7. h4 are the main alternatives. Of these, 7. Nf3 has given White the best results. Engines assess the position as a slight edge for White.
