About the Donner Line

The Donner Line is Black's queenside answer to 10. Qc2 in the 8. d5 Panno. Black plays 10...Rb8 instead of 10...e5, the Blockade Line, which fixes the center. After 11. b3 b5 12. Bb2 bxc4 13. bxc4 Bh6, the b-file is open and each side has an isolated a-pawn. The bishop has left the long diagonal, where it faced White's b2-bishop, and from h6 it eyes d2. The play turns on the open b-file and on pressure against c4.
