About the Florentine Gambit

The Florentine Gambit replaces the usual recapture 9. cxd5 in the Normal Attack. After 8...exd5, White leaves Black a pawn up and pushes 9. e5, which hits the f6-knight and uses the f4-pawn as support. The aim is to gain space and time on the kingside at the cost of material. Black has doubled d-pawns and usually answers 9...Ne4, putting the knight on an active central square instead of retreating. The play that follows is sharp and tactical.
