About the Sämisch Gambit Accepted

Here White takes the pawn offered by 6...c5. After the queen trade on d8, Black is a pawn down in an early endgame. The compensation is activity. The rook already stands on the open d-file, the g7 bishop works along the long diagonal, and the knights come quickly into play, almost always starting with 9...Nc6. Engines rate the position as roughly balanced. Black's resources are generally considered adequate, although White can often steer the game toward drawish simplification.
