An offbeat gambit in the King's Pawn Game where Black meets 2. c4 with 2...d5, offering the d-pawn; references consider it dubious.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Bavarian Gambit
The Bavarian Gambit arises when Black answers 2. c4, a move Eric Schiller nicknamed the Whale, with 2...d5. Black strikes at the center at once even though the c-pawn already covers d5, and the d-pawn is put en prise. 3. cxd5 is by far the most common reply, ahead of 3. Nc3 and 3. exd5. Opening references mark the gambit as dubious, and the engine gives White a clear advantage, although Lichess results are close to even.
