About the Clam Gambit

The Clam Gambit arises when Black meets the restrained 3. d3 with a Latvian-style 3...f5 and White captures with 4. exf5. Black is a pawn down, but White's f-pawns are doubled and the f5-pawn can be targeted by ...Bxf5. The most common reply is 4...Nf6, ahead of 4...d5, which the engine prefers and which claims the center. 4...d6 is a rarer option. The engine rates the position as slightly better for Black, who also scores well on Lichess.
