About the Greco Variation

The Greco Variation, 3...Qe7, is a rare alternative to 3...Qf6 after 3. Nxe5 in the Latvian Gambit. The queen lines up on the half-open e-file against the knight on e5, but unlike 3...Qf6 it does not cover g6. The engine prefers 4. Qh5+ and rates White's advantage as large. That check also scores best for White on Lichess, though 4. d4 is played more often. The uncommon retreat 4. Nc4 has produced good results for Black.
