An extremely rare reply to the Latvian Gambit in which White offers the b-pawn with 3. b4, mainly to set a trap if Black grabs it with the bishop.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Senechaud Gambit
The Senechaud Gambit, 3. b4, is an extremely rare reply that offers the b-pawn rather than dealing directly with Black's threat against e4. After 3...fxe4 4. Nxe5, the pawn on b4 looks free. However, 4...Bxb4 5. Qh5+ g6 6. Nxg6 Nf6 7. Qe5+ Be7 8. Nxh8 leaves Black losing heavily. The simple 4...Nf6 avoids this and gives Black the better position, so the line remains a curiosity.
