Train it in TheoriaAbout the Berg Variation
The Berg Variation answers the Marienbad System with 5. c4 cxd4 6. Qxd4, which opens the center and puts White's queen on a central square at once. White gets a half-open d-file aimed at Black's backward d-pawn. Black has the half-open c-file and can try to gain time by developing pieces with threats against the exposed queen. The line is named after the Latvian master Teodors Bergs, who introduced it.
