A Modern Defense line in which White meets the ...c6 and ...d6 setup with Bc4 and Qe2, a quieter cousin of the Qf3 attacking plan against f7.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Anti-Modern
The Anti-Modern arises from the ...c6 line of the Modern Defense, a more passive Black setup that prepares ...b5 or ...d5 against White's broad center. After 4. Bc4 d6, White plays 5. Qe2 rather than the more aggressive 5. Qf3. The queen gives up the direct pressure on f7. Instead it protects e4 and sits behind a possible e4-e5 advance, and it stays out of reach of Black's minor pieces.
