A sharp gambit in the Modern Defense's Suttles Variation in which White gives up the b2-pawn to Black's queen for a lead in development.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Tal Gambit
The Tal Gambit is the sharpest named branch of the Suttles Variation. After 5. Bg5 Qb6, White ignores the attack on b2 and continues developing with 6. Qd2, allowing 6...Qxb2. White is a pawn down and left with an isolated a-pawn. In return, Black's queen has spent two tempi reaching a remote square while the g8-knight is still at home, and the half-open b-file gives White a line toward b7.
