Train it in TheoriaAbout the Botvinnik Variation
The Botvinnik Variation, classified under ECO E36, arises after 5. a3 Bxc3+ 6. Qxc3 Nc6. Black has already given up the bishop pair. Instead of gaining time on the queen with 6...Ne4, the Main Line, or castling with 6...O-O, Black brings the queen's knight out at once. The knight adds pressure to d4 and keeps ...Ne4 in reserve. White retains the two bishops and the c4–d4 pawn pair in a position of level material.
