About the Keres Variation

The Keres Variation arises when Black answers 7. O-O in the Gligoric System with 7...b6 rather than resolving the center by 7...dxc4 or developing with 7...Nc6. The pawns on c5 and d5 stay in place while the light-squared bishop prepares to go to b7, adding pressure to the long diagonal and e4. The bishop can also go to a6 to target c4. The resulting positions are maneuvering in character, with the central tension kept for the time being.
