A sharp branch of the Nimzo-Indian Rubinstein Variation in which White plays 7. c5, trading central control for space on the queenside.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Sherbakov Attack
The Sherbakov Attack is White's 7. c5 in the Rubinstein Variation, an alternative to the Main Line 7. a3. Instead of questioning the bishop on b4 at once, White pushes the c-pawn to claim queenside space and form a pawn duo on c5 and d4. The cost is control of d5, which the c4-pawn had covered. Black, to move, can use that square and the half-open c-file to pressure the advanced pawns.
