A Classical Attack line of Petrov's Defense in which White meets 8...Nb4 with 9. cxd5, conceding the bishop pair rather than retreating from d3.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Browne Attack
The Browne Attack comes from the 8. c4 Nb4 branch rather than the 8. Re1 move order. Instead of moving the d3 bishop away from the knight's attack, White plays 9. cxd5, giving up the bishop pair to win the d5 pawn. Black almost always takes the bishop with 9...Nxd3. The alternative 9...Qxd5 is rare and has scored poorly for Black in the few games available. Engines rate the position as balanced.
