A Pterodactyl line in which Black meets White's broad e4-d4-f4 center and c3 with ...c5 and ...Qa5, pinning the c3-pawn and pressuring d4.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Pteranodon
This line arises when White answers the Modern-style 1. e4 g6 2. d4 Bg7 with 3. f4, the Austrian-style pawn trio, and then supports d4 with 4. c3 after 3...c5. The reply 4...Qa5 places the queen on the a5-e1 diagonal, pinning the c3-pawn to the king while d2 is empty. A capture on d4 therefore cannot be met by cxd4 at once, and the g7-bishop adds pressure on the long diagonal.
