The Eastern Benoni Pteranodon meets White's space-gaining 4. d5 by surrendering the fianchettoed bishop with 4...Bxc3+ 5. bxc3 and following with 5...Qa5. Instead of keeping a bishop blunted by the d5-pawn, Black damages White's queenside, leaving doubled c-pawns and an isolated a-pawn, with the queen at once eyeing c3. White retains the bishop pair, central pawns on d5 and e4, and the half-open b-file.
