About the Krenosz Variation

The Krenosz Variation is one of Black's named answers to the Modern Line, 5. Nbd2. After 5...Bg4 6. h3 Bxf3 7. Nxf3 Bb4+ 8. Bd2 Qe7, Black gives up the bishop pair to remove a defender of e5. The check gains a tempo, and the queen on e7 bears down on the advanced e5 pawn. Black is still a pawn down and relies on the d4 wedge and quick development for compensation.
