A sharp Orthodox Defense sideline of the Queen's Gambit Declined in which White meets Capablanca's 9...Nd5 with 10. h4 and avoids the bishop exchange.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Janowski Variation
The Janowski Variation (ECO D67) is a branch of the Orthodox Defense in which White answers Capablanca's freeing maneuver 9...Nd5 with 10. h4 instead of the usual 10. Bxe7. White declines the bishop trade that eases Black's game and supports the g5-bishop with the h-pawn, so that a capture on g5 would open the h-file toward Black's castled king. It is unrelated to the 3...a6 line of the same name.
