About the Rochlin Variation

The Rochlin Variation comes from the 4...Nbd7 move order that normally heads for the Cambridge Springs Defense (5. Nf3 c6 6. e3 Qa5). White instead plays 6. Rc1, putting the rook on the c-file before committing the e-pawn. Black still plays 6...Qa5, pinning the c3-knight against the king. With 7. Bd2, White unpins by pulling the bishop back from g5. This gives up pressure on f6 in order to keep the queenside secure.
