About the Krause Variation

The Krause Variation arises from the Pillsbury move order with 4. Bg5. After 5...cxd4 6. Nxd4, Black strikes with 6...e5, driving the knight from the center and claiming a broad pawn pair on d5 and e5. White replies 7. Ndb5, eyeing c7, and after 7...a6 plays 8. Qa4. The queen pins along the a-file: 8...axb5 would allow Qxa8. Play is tactical, with the d5 and e5 pawns either a central asset or a target.
