About the Levenfish Variation

The Levenfish Variation grows out of the Symmetrical Variation of the Semi-Tarrasch, 5. e3 Nc6 6. Bd3 Bd6 7. O-O O-O, with both queens going to e2 and e7. After 8. Qe2 Qe7 9. dxc5 Bxc5, Black's bishop has moved twice. White uses that tempo for 10. e4, striking at d5 and opening the center. With the c- and d-files half-open, Black must decide how to handle the pawn tension on d5.
