A Queen's Gambit Declined line in which Black meets White's quiet e3 and Nbd2 setup with ...Ne4 and ...f5, adopting a Stonewall Dutch pawn structure.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Stonewall Variation
Usually reached through a Slav move order, this line arises when White chooses the quiet 4. e3 and then 5. Nbd2, avoiding a Semi-Slav transposition with Nc3. Black responds with 5...Ne4 and 6...f5, placing pawns on c6, d5, e6 and f5 in the formation of the Stonewall Dutch. The e4 knight is anchored by the d5 and f5 pawns, while the weakened e5 square and the hemmed-in c8-bishop are Black's long-term concerns.
