About the Buerger Variation

The Buerger Variation (ECO E15) is a gambit branch of the Fianchetto Variation. After 4...Bb7 5. Bg2 c5, White pushes 6. d5, and once Black takes with 6...exd5, 7. Ng5 moves the knight off the long diagonal so the g2-bishop presses directly on d5. White is a pawn down. In return, Black's d-pawns are doubled and the d- and e-files are half-open, which gives White targets and active piece play against the center.
