Train it in TheoriaAbout the Welling Variation
The Welling Variation, 1. d4 d5 2. Bg5 Bg4, answers White's bishop sortie symmetrically. Black's light-squared bishop sits on the d1-g4 diagonal, so e2-e3 would expose White's queen just as ...e6 would expose Black's. It is a rare line with nearly even results. The most frequent reply, 3. h3, questions the bishop at once and scores well for White. 3. f3 blunts the diagonal with a pawn, and 3. Nf3 blocks it with a developing move.
