Train it in TheoriaAbout the Pterodactyl Variation
The Pterodactyl Variation, filed under the London System, arises from a fianchetto setup rather than from 1...d5: 1. d4 g6 2. Nf3 Bg7 3. Bf4 c5 4. c3 cxd4 5. cxd4 Qa5+. Black challenges d4 with the c-pawn and exchanges it to open the c-file. The queen then comes to a5 with check, while the g7-bishop aims along the long diagonal at the isolated central pawn.
