English Rat, Pounds Gambit

The Pounds Gambit leaves the e5-pawn alone and plays 3...Be6, which develops the light-squared bishop toward c4 and leaves White a pawn up with doubled e-pawns. By far the most common reply is 4. exd6, which takes the d6-pawn and undoubles White's pawns. 4. e4 and 4. e3 are occasional alternatives. The engine gives White a slight edge, but results in online play are fairly close. It is a rarely played sideline of the English Rat.
