About the Torre System

The Torre System is the second most common reply to 4. b3 in the Anglo-Slav Variation, after the London-style 4...Bf5. With 4...Bg4 Black develops the light-squared bishop actively and pins the f3-knight, keeping a solid ...c6/...d5 structure. White overwhelmingly continues 5. Bg2, completing the kingside fianchetto, while 5. Bb2 and 5. Ne5, attacking the bishop, are occasional alternatives. The engine regards the position as balanced, and the line is seldom played.
