Train it in TheoriaAbout the Bogoljubow Variation
In the Yates Variation, White plays 9. d4 instead of the customary 9. h3, and Black answers with 9...Bg4, pinning the f3-knight and adding pressure to d4. This reply is the main reason White usually prepares d4 with h3. The line is named after the game Capablanca–Bogoljubow, London 1922. White normally chooses between 10. Be3, bolstering d4, and 10. d5, gaining space. The alternative 10. a4 is the Short Attack. Engines consider the position roughly balanced.
