About the Quiet Variation

Rather than staking the center at once with 10. d4, White plays 10. d3, keeping e4 firmly supported and deferring the central clash. Among alternatives to d4 it is the only one taken seriously, though it remains far less common. Black usually carries on with the Breyer plan through 10...Nbd7, with 10...c5 and 10...Bb7 the other replies. The engine rates the position roughly balanced, and the game tends toward slow maneuvering.
