About the Gajewski Gambit

The Gajewski Gambit is the sharp alternative to the classical 10...c5 in the Chigorin Defense of the Closed Ruy Lopez (Spanish Game). After 10. Bc2, the immediate 10...d5 strikes at e4 and sacrifices the e-pawn. In return, Black gets open lines for the pieces instead of the slower queenside expansion of the main line. It is regarded as less sound than 10...c5 but effective in practical play, and it is classified under ECO C96.
