About the Rossolimo Defense

The Rossolimo Defense branches from the Chigorin complex of the Closed Ruy Lopez, or Closed Spanish. After 9...Na5 10. Bc2, Black chooses the more modest 10...c6 instead of the usual 10...c5. Following 11. d4 Qc7, the c-pawn stays at home, the queen comes off the back rank, and the center keeps its d6-e5 against d4-e4 shape. It is a rarely chosen sideline of the Chigorin.
