A rare, combative line of the Ruy Lopez Fianchetto Defense in which Black answers 4. c3 by striking at White's e-pawn with 4...f5.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Kevitz Gambit
The Kevitz Gambit is Black's sharp alternative to the quieter 4...a6 against 4. c3 in the Fianchetto Defense. Rather than finishing the fianchetto, Black attacks e4 at once with 4...f5, setting up pawns on e5 and f5 at the cost of loosening the kingside already weakened by ...g6. The line bears the name of Alexander Kevitz, an American master and analyst whose name is also attached to variations of the Réti, English and Nimzowitsch Defense.
