Train it in TheoriaAbout the Spassky Variation
The Spassky Variation follows the old main line, 15. Be3, with which White blocks the e-file before Black can seize it with ...Bg4 and ...Rae8. The move also develops the c1-bishop so that Nd2 will not shut it in. After 15...Bg4 16. Qd3 Rae8 17. Nd2 Re6 18. a4 Qh5, Black keeps the queen on the kingside while White gains queenside space with a4. Black has historically outscored White after 15. Be3, and engines regard the position as level.
