About the Breslau Variation

The Breslau Variation is a branch of the Classical line of the Open Ruy Lopez (Open Spanish). It arises after 9. c3 Be7 10. Re1 O-O 11. Nd4. The knight move abandons the e5-pawn, and 11...Nxe5 leaves Black a pawn up. In return, White has a rook on the open e-file facing two black knights posted in the center on that same file. The resulting play is sharp and calculation-heavy.
