A sharp Portuguese Gambit line in which White chases Black's bishop with 5. g4, keeping the extra pawn and restricting Black's king's knight.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Correspondence Refutation
The Correspondence Refutation is the most demanding answer to the Portuguese Gambit. After 4...Bf5, 5. g4 hits the bishop a second time and grabs kingside space. Black nearly always retreats with 5...Bg6, and 6. c4 then shores up the extra pawn on d5. With pawns on f3 and c4 covering the good squares and g5 threatened, the f6-knight is pushed to passive posts such as d7 or h5. Engines rate White clearly better, though online results are fairly close.
