A rare Portuguese Gambit line in the Scandinavian Defense in which White develops with 6. Nc3 instead of supporting the d5 pawn with c4.
Train it in TheoriaAbout the Melbourne Shuffle Variation
The Melbourne Shuffle Variation arises when White, after 4. f3 Bf5 5. Bb5+ Nbd7, prefers 6. Nc3 to the 6. c4 of the Jadoul Variation. The knight guards the extra pawn on d5 and speeds development, but the c-pawn stays at home and the bishop on b5 remains a target. Black almost always answers 6...a6, challenging the bishop at once. White keeps the pawn, engines give White a slight edge, and the line is seldom played.
