About the Blackburne Variation

The Blackburne Variation arises when Black answers the Horwitz Attack with 5...Bb4+. After 6. Bd2 Qxe4+ 7. Be2 Kd8 8. O-O Bxd2 9. Qxd2, Black keeps the extra pawn but gives up the right to castle. White has castled, leads in development, and has the open e-file and half-open d-file aimed at the king on d8. Black must finish developing before the b5-knight and White's rooks can exploit that exposed king.
