The Portisch Gambit is White's sharpest answer to Black's Stonewall setup. With 5. g4, White challenges the f5-pawn immediately, offering the g-pawn to loosen Black's hold on e4 and open lines on the kingside. Black most often declines with 5...Nf6. Accepting with 5...fxg4 is less common and has given Black poor results. The line is seldom played and White scores well with it, though the engine rates the position as roughly balanced.
